Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky announced on March 2 that purported evidence of the German military allegedly planning to destroy civilian infrastructure showed similarities.
`This is a complete shame and loss of face for Germany,` Mr. Polyansky wrote on social network X (formerly Twitter).
The Russian diplomat’s statement came after the editor-in-chief of the Russian RT channel, Margarita Simonyan, published a 38-minute recording containing what is believed to be a discussion between German officers about the attack.
The characters on the tape discussed the possibility of Ukrainian forces using German-made Taurus missiles and the potential impact that would entail.
`Germany is no longer the country with which we signed friendly treaties in the 1990s and 2000s. The parallels with the 1930s are inevitable,` Mr. Polyansky said.
Previously, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova asked Germany to explain `immediately` about the recording and emphasized that `attempts to avoid questions will be considered an admission of guilt`.
A spokesman for the German Ministry of Defense admitted that discussions among the country’s officers about supporting Ukraine in an attack on Crimea were real.
The Crimean peninsula, home to an important Russian naval base, is frequently the target of Ukrainian drone and missile attacks.
Ukraine has also repeatedly used unmanned boats to attack Russian port infrastructure in Sevastopol.
On the morning of March 3, the Russian Ministry of Defense accused Ukrainian forces of continuing to conduct a coordinated attack on the Crimean peninsula.
`The Kiev authorities’ attempt to carry out a terrorist attack using 38 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) was prevented,` the Russian Defense Ministry said in a brief news release,
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, all UAVs were shot down by air defense forces.
There are currently no reports of damage or injuries from the attack.
On the night of March 2, Russian authorities announced the closure of some highway sections leading to the Crimea bridge, as well as closing the bridge.
Previously, on the morning of March 2, agents of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) stopped a vehicle with explosives moving from the Kherson region to Crimea.
