(Dan Tri) – Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that former US President Donald Trump approved the sale of America’s `first weapons` to Ukraine in 2017 as a sign that he would not turn his back on Kiev if elected.

In 2017, while still in office, Mr. Trump approved the sale of Javelin missiles to Ukraine amid continuing fighting in Eastern Ukraine.

However, after leaving office, Mr. Trump gave mixed views on military support for Ukraine in the current conflict with Russia.

He also repeatedly stated that he could end the conflict in Ukraine within 24 hours if re-elected.

Even so, Foreign Minister Kuleba believes that Mr. Trump will continue to support aid to Ukraine.

`Mr. Trump is someone we can cooperate with, we just need to know how to work with him,` the Ukrainian diplomat said.

He admitted that working with Mr. Trump is `completely different` from working with President Biden’s administration.

The above comments were made in the context of the Russia-Ukraine war about to enter its third year but with no signs of cooling down.

While the US and many allies no longer seem as interested in supporting Ukraine as they initially were due to the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war, Mr. Trump continually emphasized Washington’s support to help Kiev achieve important successes.

In an effort to change Mr. Trump’s opinion on the prospect of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last November invited Mr. Trump to this country to witness what was happening.

`If he could come here, I would only need 24 minutes to explain that he cannot manage this war. He cannot bring peace,` the Ukrainian leader said.

However, Mr. Trump declined the invitation.
