Haiti arrested security `boss` suspected of being behind the assassination of the president 0

(Dan Tri) – Haitian police have arrested the head of Haitian President Jovenel Moise’s security force in an investigation into the leader’s assassination.

`I can confirm that Jean Laguel Civil was arrested by police on Monday (July 26) in the investigation into the assassination of President Jovenel Moise,` Haitian police spokeswoman Marie Michelle Verrier told the news agency.

Haitian officials also asked immigration authorities to prohibit four police officers, who are responsible for ensuring President Moise’s security, from leaving the country.

Details of the assassination are still unclear, but newly elected Prime Minister Ariel Henry pledged to bring President Moise’s assassins to justice.

According to the initial investigation by Haitian authorities, a group of 28 commandos raided President Moise’s residence on Pelerin 5 Street, on the outskirts of Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince.

Investigators at the scene said, Mr. Moise’s body was discovered on the bedroom floor with at least 12 bullet holes.

A notable detail in the assassination is that only the President and First Lady were hit, while the rest of the people in the President’s house, including the bodyguards, were not injured.

Right before being assassinated by a group of assassins, President Moise called his subordinates, asking for support.

The role of the bodyguard team tasked with protecting President Moise is still a topic of concern in the investigation into the assassination, as there are increasing questions about why the mercenary team was able to break in.
