In June 1942, a naval battle took place between an American aircraft carrier and a Japanese fascist aircraft carrier.
The crew of the research ship Petrel, in coordination with the US Navy, revealed on October 18 that they had found the Japanese aircraft carrier Kaga lying at a depth of 5.4 km below the sea surface in the area around the archipelago.
This is a search program launched by billionaire Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft Corporation.
Pictures of the Kaga shipwreck were posted on October 18.
The ship’s wreckage had lost its landing/takeoff deck while animals had invaded the pipeline system, and pieces of metal had also broken.
`We’ve read about the naval battle, we know what happened,` said historian Frank Thompson of the Washington-based Naval History and Heritage Command.

The ship was built a few years before World War 2 and was one of six aircraft carriers that attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941.
During the naval battle of Midway 6 months later, the Kaga and three other Japanese aircraft carriers were hit by continuous fire from the US Navy and received 5 direct hits.
Although some Kaga fragments have been found before, this is the first time the main part of the ship has been found.
Three other Japanese aircraft carriers were sunk, Akagi, Soryu and Hiryu, but their bodies have not yet been found.
