(Dan Tri) – Aviation security experts pay attention to a detail that they believe may have caused the death toll to increase in the Russian plane carrying 78 people crashing onto the runway yesterday.

On May 5, a Sukhoi Superjet-100 aircraft of Aeroflot Airlines (Russia) carrying 78 people crashed when it crashed straight onto the runway, bursting into flames like a ball of fire.

After the incident, a video went viral showing the survivors escaping the plane still holding their carry-on luggage.

One question is how many lives might have been saved if the passengers had followed the crew’s instructions and left their luggage behind as they exited the plane as quickly as possible.

Aviation researcher Geoffrey Thomas said that although it was too early to know for sure what happened, there was a strong possibility that the death toll could have been reduced if passengers had been evacuated more quickly.

“What’s worrying here is when you see some passengers still carrying their luggage when escaping, or even people still taking out their phones to record videos.

`It would be truly a tragedy if the above scenario occurred and this is clearly a problem in the aviation industry when passengers do not voluntarily comply with the crew’s instructions to leave the plane as quickly as possible,`

According to Mr. Thomas, the airline industry’s standard for evacuating commercial aircraft with half the emergency exits operating is 90 seconds.

In the Sukhoi plane incident on May 5, only 2/4 of the emergency exits were used.

Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority spokesman Peter Gibson said in emergency situations passengers should strictly follow the crew’s instructions because time is of the essence.

In fact, there have been many cases where one passenger’s bag hit another passenger during evacuation, causing chaos in the travel process.
